NATO Center of Excellence acquires MASA SWORD licenses for training and planning purposes

The NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) located in Sofia, Bulgaria recently licensed MASA SWORD for training military and civilian users of the center in emergency preparedness, collaboration in operations and civil-military cooperation.

SWORD is a wargame with automated forces designed for training, planning, and decision support. It uses advanced artificial intelligence to enable realistic simulations of military and civil units reacting to a wide variety of scenarios. Their automated actions follow doctrine and procedures previously validated by subject matter experts. This unique capability allows for large-scale exercises to be conducted realistically while minimizing costs and animation effort.

NATO Interagency Interaction Seminar

The NATO Crisis Management and Disaster Response Centre of Excellence (CMDR COE) organized its third annual Interagency Interaction Seminar in Sofia (Bulgaria) on June 8th-9th, 2015. The CMDR Interagency Interaction Seminar is an annual event which gathers subject matter experts, researchers and educators, planners and developers, consultants and various actors working in the crisis management and disaster response domain in order to promote a lively debate on these issues. This year, more than 90 representatives of a total of 19 NATO and PfP nations took part in the annual seminar.

CMDR COE Sofia 2015

There, MASA held a conference on the following subject: “How can Artificial Intelligence help to reduce the impact of disasters?”. Both the propagation of the disaster, the impact that it has on people and infrastructure AND the execution of high level orders by the subordinate levels are replaced by Artificial Intelligence.
This represents not only a tremendous cost saving, but will above all allow senior crisis management members to prepare for a crisis situation in a situation that is accurately mirroring the real crisis situation.
